Water PROVEN ISS recovers about 98% of water, including urine, sweat, and condensate, via the Brine Processor Assembly — inside a resupplied, Earth-supported loop.
Closed-loop target ≥98%, treated as the proven floor for design.
Air PROJECTED Oxygen loop closure via Sabatier + electrolysis; ISS CO₂ reduction is roughly 50% today. Full closure is an active goal, not a fact.
Target ≥95% O₂ recovery with N+2 redundancy on life-critical paths.
Food PROJECTED Controlled-environment agriculture and bioreactors aim at 30–60% caloric closure at a pilot and ≥70% at scale. Not field-proven.
Full biological closure (MELiSSA-class) remains a HORIZON goal.
Energy PROJECTED Photovoltaics + storage are mature; NASA/DOE Fission Surface Power targets ≥40 kWe per unit as the night-and-storm backbone.
Space-based solar and fusion are treated as HORIZON, not planning.
Medicine PROVEN On-site trauma and pharmacy plus telemedicine to Earth specialists; 3D bioprinting of tissue is already research-grade on ISS.
Queer-specific medicine must be locally made or multiply redundant.
Fabrication PROVEN 3D printing of tools and structural parts is routine on ISS; circular recovery targets ≥95% of materials.
In-situ resource use is lab-demonstrated, not yet field-proven.
Communications PROVEN Latency-bounded links where physics allows; identity via member-held keys, never a central database.
Spectrum needs multi-year, treaty-bound ITU coordination.
Governance PROVEN A public commons ledger and liquid-democratic tooling exist today; Ostrom's commons principles run as invariants.
Emergency authority is logged and expires automatically.
Evacuation PROJECTED Assured return sized to the full population, with escrowed return capacity. Any habitat lacking it fails the non-coercion test.
Rapid rescue is preserved through every analog phase.
